Fine-dining couple opens Salisbury's Pizza, a $4-slice neighborhood spot in Casa Linda
Will and Julie Salisbury spent years in some of Dallas' best-known fine-dining rooms. For their first restaurant of their own, they went the other way. Salisbury's Pizza opened in August in Casa Linda Plaza, in the former Be Home Soon space at 9540 Garland Road. The idea is a place where you can grab a $4 slice on a regular weeknight.
The couple wanted a neighborhood spot from the start. "We didn't want Salisbury's to be somewhere you could only come for a special occasion," they wrote on the restaurant's Instagram, as quoted by the Dallas Observer. They said they wanted a place where families could come for dinner, stop in for a slice or share a pizza and a bottle of wine "on a random Tuesday."
The newlyweds built the restaurant much of the way themselves. Dining With Frankie reported that they did the remodeling on their own, bought furnishings secondhand and hung family photos on the walls. D Magazine reported that the Salisburys have estimated on social media that doing the work themselves saved them about $250,000.
Will, a chef, has worked at Bullion and Carbone. On a recent visit, the Observer watched him stretch and toss dough into 18-inch New York-style pies while Julie kept an eye on the oven. Along with pizza, the menu has handmade pastas and appetizers like garlic knots and meatballs. Julie is a sommelier who has worked at Monarch and Carbone, and she put together a wine list with house pours under $10, DiningOut reported. The pizzeria also plans to offer delivery with its own drivers, without third-party apps.
