McKinney National Airport opens its newly built passenger terminal Nov. 11, when Avelo Airlines starts the first commercial flights from DTX.

McKinney National Airport (DTX) will open its newly built passenger terminal on Nov. 11, the day commercial passenger flights begin at the North Texas airport. Houston-based Avelo Airlines is the launch carrier, starting with nonstop service to Fort Myers, Florida.

Later in November, Avelo adds inaugural flights to Las Vegas, Orlando, Tampa and Fort Lauderdale. Dallas Innovates reports the Las Vegas and Orlando flights leave Nov. 12, with Fort Lauderdale and Tampa following on Nov. 19.

The terminal is designed to handle more than 2 million passengers a year. Avelo plans to expand its schedule by mid-December to 11 nonstop destinations, adding Atlanta, Denver, Nashville, New Orleans, Sarasota/Bradenton and West Palm Beach. The carrier plans to base three 184-seat Boeing 737-800 aircraft at the airport, and it has said the McKinney base will create more than 100 local jobs for pilots, flight attendants, aircraft technicians and airport staff, according to Dallas Express.

Airport Director Ken Carley has said airport leaders will track demand once service begins, and they want to learn how the community responds to the new flights, NBC DFW reports.
