Rockwall County Master Gardeners Plant First Seeds of New Learning Gardens
A new public garden is taking root in the heart of Rockwall County government. The Rockwall County Extension Master Gardener Association, working with the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service of Rockwall County, scheduled an Inaugural Planting Ceremony for the new Rockwall County Learning Gardens for Wednesday, Oct. 28, at 10 a.m. at 1111 E. Yellowjacket Lane in Rockwall.
The garden sits between the Rockwall County Courthouse and the Rockwall County Library. Organizers described the ceremony as the official physical kickoff of the educational garden project. Local leaders, county officials and master gardeners were set to gather for the first planting along the garden's newly built paths.
Organizers say the finished garden is meant to be an accessible, natural place for exploring and reflecting. They hope it will inspire visitors, promote research-based horticulture and landscaping practices, and help residents develop a lifelong love of gardening.
"The Rockwall County Learning Gardens reflect our shared dedication to bringing hands-on, science-based education to our residents," said Todd Williams, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Agent for Rockwall County. He added that organizers look forward to "watching this space grow into a lasting community resource."
The Rockwall County Master Gardeners Association is a nonprofit, educational and charitable 501(c)(3) group whose members volunteer alongside the AgriLife Extension Service to offer science-based gardening education to county residents. A formal dedication ceremony is planned for next year, once the first plantings are in full bloom.
